The term infant mental health refers to the healthy social, emotional, and cognitive development of children under the age of three.  The term, infant mental health also describes an expanding field of study and practice that has grown into a broad- based multi-disciplinary and international effort to focus on the social emotional well-being of infants and toddlers (Heffron, 2000).
