Questions
Is this a test?
No. It’s a self-reflection tool built from the national IECMHC consultant competencies. There’s no passing score, and it isn’t a credential or a certificate.
Short or full version: which should I take?
The short version has 4 skills per competency and takes 8 to 10 minutes. It gives you a label for each competency and your lowest scores, so you know where to focus.
The full version has all 214 skills from the national competencies and takes about 40 minutes. It gives you a complete picture, skill by skill. Supervisors often ask for this one before a learning plan.
Both end with the same full report by email. You can take the short version now and come back for the full version later.
How is each competency scored?
You rate each skill from 1 (no capacity) to 4 (high capacity). Your score for a competency is the average of your ratings on its skills.
A competency is a growing edge if a quarter or more of its skills are rated 1 or 2 (in the short version, that’s any 1 of its 4 skills). It’s a strength if at least 9 in 10 of its skills are rated 3 or higher and your average is 3.5 or more (in the short version, all 4 skills). Everything else is solid.
What’s in the full report?
Your score and label for all 8 competencies, how you rated every skill, and 3 resources from our library for each competency. We email you a link. It works on any device, and you can print it or save it as a PDF.
Can supervisors use this with a team?
Yes. Ask each consultant to forward their report link or download their ratings as a CSV file from the report. Compare the results to plan training for the team.
What do “EC provider” and “consultee” mean?
An early childhood (EC) provider is the person receiving consultation. That could be an educator, home visitor, pediatrician, or child welfare worker. A consultee is the program, provider, or caregiver receiving consultation.
