Supporting Children in Foster Care through IECMHC in ECE Settings

Supporting Children in Foster Care through IECMHC in ECE Settings

May is National Foster Care Month. National Foster Care Month is a time to acknowledge the 463,000 American children and youth in foster care and the family members, foster parents, volunteers, mentors, child welfare professionals, and policymakers who help them find permanent homes and connections.

The Center of Excellence has developed a resource on Considerations for Providing Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation in Early Care & Education Settings to Support Children in Foster Care. This brief focuses on how infant and early childhood mental health consultation (IECMHC) can mitigate the challenges these children face, as well as the challenges that early childhood education (ECE) teachers and other program staff face in providing the best possible care for them.
